Notes
Maine municipal tax-lien foreclosure jurisdiction — Hancock County does not run a county-wide tax auction. Towns and cities file tax liens and can foreclose administratively under 36 M.R.S. Ch. 105; later disposition of tax-acquired property is town-specific. Ellsworth (county seat) lists Tax Acquired Properties for sale on an ad hoc basis (including timeshare weeks historically) with no recurring scheduled public auction. Other Hancock towns (Bar Harbor, Bucksport, Deer Isle, etc.) each have their own collectors and sale practices — always research the municipality of the parcel.
